The Pacific Basin is a region with unique characteristics and challenges, including a vast geographic area the size of the continental United States. The region is characterized by diverse cultures, limited resources, varying levels of infrastructure, and differing needs. There is a common thread, however, connecting the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands to Hawai`i. In addition to regional cultural ties, there is a long history of collaboration between the entities treating each other as “`Ohana” or family.
The Pacific Basin Telehealth Resource Center (PBTRC) is one of 14 Telehealth Resource Centers (TRC) that represent a consortium of experts in Telehealth networks and services. PBTRC offers education, training, strategic planning, services/business development, technology infrastructures and equipment options review, and program evaluation. The PBTRC also provides technical assistance in navigating the USAC Healthcare Connect Fund. The PBTRC is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and serves as a local information resource and assists in the development of existing and new Telehealth networks, services, and applications.
